ON CAMPUS JOBS

Students who work on campus can apply for Federal-Work Study. The Federal Work-Study Program gives a student the opportunity to work part-time while attending school. To qualify for a Federal Work-Study position a student must demonstrate financial need and have a Federal Work-Study award as a part of the student’s overall financial aid package. It is the responsibility of the student to search, apply and interview for a position as well as maintain their own continual employment.

On campus jobs are based on the business needs of the department. One of the easier jobs offered to students work in the mail room and get packages for people. This job is popular since students can work on homework whenever they do not need to grab the mail for someone. The Office of Admissions to be a tour guide is a highly competitive office job at Chapman, but it is another popular job among students.

Whether you're a marketing executive at a major company, a business owner who runs a small local shop or even a first year college

OFF CAMPUS JOBS

student looking for their first job after graduating, LinkedIn is for anybody and everybody who's interested in taking their professional life more seriously by looking for new opportunities to grow their careers and to connect with other professionals. You can think of LinkedIn as the high-tech equivalent of going to a traditional networking event where you go and meet other professionals in person, talk a little bit about what you do and exchange business cards. It's like one big virtual networking event.

Off campus jobs can vary and can be anything, such as restaurants and clothing stores. It probably can't be a full time job, since it is hard to balance academics with full time job and any extracurriculars. Look out for shops that have have help wanted posters or ask a worker or manager. In terms of looking for online, LinkedIn and Handshake are popular apps college students are using!

Handshake is an app that connects students on college campuses with open positions, mainly internships and entry level jobs. The app is connected to the school career centers, streamlining the process for employers, counselors, and student candidates. Given their connections to college career service departments and the fact that their positions are mainly internships and entry level. Users create a profile with their past experiences and information. Once that is done, they can review the job board of companies in the Handshake ecosystem or wait to get newsletter alerts in their inbox to jobs that fit their interests. Through the app, students can set deadlines for themselves and organize the job openings into collections.Handshake is targeted towards college students and recent grads. Handshake is free for candidates, employers, and universities.

INTERNSHIPS

Internships can be paid or unpaid. Either way, they look great on a resume! They are harder to get, but it does not hurt to apply for them. Usually, internships are based on your interests and the career path you want to go down. Handshake and LinkedIn are great resources to find internships! Internships would be convenient if they were close to campus, but many students commute to Los Angeles for internships at places like, Warner Brothers or DreamWorks. It all depends on how much you want to take on, since a long commute is a big time commitment. Internships often lead to jobs!
